IN MEMORY OF NICK POPE

19TH SEPTEMBER 1965 – 6TH APRIL 2026

It is with deep sadness that BUFORA reports the passing of Nick Pope on 6th April 2026.

On behalf of BUFORA we send our deepest sympathy and condolences to his wife, Elizabeth and family at this saddest of times for them.

Nick supported BUFORA and their work for many, many years through the 90s onwards and he was often seen in his earlier years at BUFORA lectures, meetings and conferences, including as a speaker on frequent occasions.

After Nick moved to the United States he would refer people in the UK who contacted him, to BUFORA, with all kinds of enquiries, sightings, high strangeness experiences and their photographs and video clips.

I last saw Nick in Newcastle upon Tyne in 2011 for a BUFORA conference where he had kindly agreed to give a presentation for us at no cost. It was just before he moved to the United States with his wife Elizabeth Weiss. We all had drinks together with BUFORA colleagues the night before, and dinner the following evening after the conference. It was very evident how very happy Nick and Elizabeth were together that weekend. A profound memory full of joy and laughter.

Nick was such a huge part of ufology on every level, but he always maintained his decency and kindness to everyone, always happy to engage with everyone and always approachable! A real accolade in this digital age of so often prioritizing superficiality over genuine connection.

Nick will be hugely missed by all of us in BUFORA past and present, and so many in the international UFO community.

His passing has created a hollow place in ufology. His dedication and insight not just into the subject, but much more crucially, into his respect and acknowledgment for all the investigators, researchers, and the people who give their time to report sightings, curious anomalies, and extraordinary human experiences.

Farewell, dear Nick, we will miss you so very much at BUFORA, but more than that you will be missed for your engaging smile and the laughter shared during your many years within the crazy world of ufology.
